Divergently Speaking

Divergently Speaking
An opinionated, non-fictional, AND fictional article- all the buzz on the phenomenon that is DIVERGENT. -by Ella Roth

What’s All the Hype?
If you patrol the classrooms of any middle school, I guarantee you will find about at least five kids reading a book in the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. It is among the latest trends, and a major topic of the conversations you will witness among most kids and teens in America.
But the question non-readers (yet) have all been thinking: is it really worth all the... crazy? I decided to try it out myself. Although I can not give you my FULL FULL FULL FULL thoughts on the revered trilogy because I am currently reading the third book, Allegiant, here is what I have to say.
Divergent is probably worthy of all it’s glory, in my opinion. Don’t maliciously attack me, Divergent haters, for saying that, but I don’t think there are very many of you out there that don’t like the book. Full of intense moments, epic vocabulary, and the epic and traumatic firsthand accounts of super-star divergent Tris Prior, this is worth all the drama. However, I am definitely NOT a fangirl. I know this most likely will raise a lot of controversy, but... I’ve read better books. I will not list them now, but you get the gist. In spite of that, Veronica Roth, nonetheless, is a literary genius. Subjective as that may seem, I highly doubt that you can come up with a plot this awesome and complicated. Also, I am not related to Veronica Roth. Just in case you were wondering... :)

Some Divergent/Shailene Fun Facts...
-Okay, here’s a bit of craziness for you: Shailene Woodley- Tris. Ansel Elgort- Caleb, brother of Tris. Shailene Woodley- Hazel Grace. Ansel Elgort- Augustus, boyfriend of Hazel. What???
-In a recent People Magazine interview with the makeup artist from the set of Divergent Brad Wilder, he reveals that Theo James’ back tattoos took three hours to apply and 45 minutes to remove each time!!!
-Veronica Roth chose the location for Abnegation headquarters before choosing any of the locations for the other factions.
-Many Divergentinians were shocked that Uriah did not make an appearance in the first movie, but he will be added in the second one!
-Marcus Eaton was almost killed off in Insurgent!!!!
-Shailene Woodley is very into herbs. In a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, she brought along with her a ginger root!!!

Some Stupid Fan Fiction
“Mull it over. You have time...” mumbles Four sarcastically. I glance at the clock, ticking away. Five... four... three... two...
“All right, all right!” I stiffly say, almost shouting, but not quite. “I’ll do it.”
I am about to start my fear landscape. I am afraid that Four will see who I am- and what I am is something I was always told not to be. Divergent. I wasn’t told after my aptitude test- I was told by my mother three years ago. She could figure it out. Being Erudite, she could always identify who anybody was. She told me to do two things: to keep quiet and stay brave. I’ve been living off those two rules ever since.
But lately, the “be brave” thing is fading. Every day I fight to keep it there. That’s why I joined Dauntless.
  I take a deep breath.
  And another.
I almost forget the sound of Four’s voice until he mutters, “Brace yourself.” He gives a slight chuckle and the outer edges of my eyes go fuzzy and black as he inserts the syringe into my neck.....
  “Jump.”
I feel something cold on my neck. It’s a hand closing around my throat. I hear the voice again. It’s gruff, but when I turn around, it’s a man I don’t recognize. He’s dressed in black- Dauntless. I’m on the edge of the chasm.
“Jump, Lara,” he repeats. I swivel around to complete my instinctive reaction- to punch him in the face. But something stops me. Divergents punch. Dauntless...
  Run.

to be continued (because I am so epic)
